Crypto profit and loss calculator
Type what you paid, what you sold (or plan to sell) at, and your exchange fee. The calculator shows the dollar result, the percentage return and the price at which you would just cover both fees.
How the profit is calculated
Profit equals sale proceeds minus the sell fee, minus your cost, minus the buy fee. Return is that profit divided by what you put in, including the buy fee. Fees are taken as a percentage of the trade value on each side, which is how most exchanges charge.
Why break-even is above your buy price
If you pay 0.5% to buy and 0.5% to sell, you need the price to rise roughly 1% before you are flat. The break-even figure here is buy price x (1 + fee) / (1 - fee), which accounts for the sell fee being charged on a larger amount.
What this does not include
Taxes, spread (the gap between the exchange's buy and sell quotes), withdrawal fees and funding payments on leveraged positions. For a realistic net result, add those to the fee field or subtract them from the profit.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate crypto profit?
Multiply the units you hold by the sell price, subtract the sell fee, then subtract what you paid including the buy fee. Divide by your total cost to get the percentage return.
Does the calculator include taxes?
No. Crypto gains are taxable in most countries; in the US they are capital gains, short-term if held under a year. Set aside an estimate from the profit shown here.
What fee should I enter?
Use your exchange's taker fee for market orders (commonly 0.1% to 0.6%) or maker fee for limit orders. If you are unsure, 0.5% is a reasonable estimate for retail trading.
Can I use this for a loss?
Yes. Enter a sell price below your buy price and the result turns negative. Realized losses can usually offset gains for tax purposes.
