What happened
Bitcoin and market selloff
Bitcoin fell below $81,000 on Oct. 8 and slid toward $80,000, with more than $1 billion in crypto liquidations hitting mostly traders betting on higher prices. Bitcoin long liquidations reached their largest level since early June, and more than $200 billion left the crypto market over 48 hours, with rising oil prices and Treasury yields cited as added pressure. Bitcoin dominance rose to a one-month high of 60.05%, and Bitcoin rebounded above $81,000 after Trump ruled out Iran strikes.

Ethereum and altcoins
Ethereum dropped 10% over the week toward $2,420, and Ethereum open interest fell 11.7% to its lowest level since June 2026. Among altcoins, Raydium (RAY) rose 14% and has more than doubled in a month, STRK gained 20%, and SKY fell 12%. Solana new wallets were up 124% while SOL faced selling pressure.

Bitcoin Core's opt-in private-broadcast privacy fix was merged into the 32.x code, while the backport to the 31 branch remains open and 31.1 is still the stable download.
