Why the 200-week average matters
The 200-week simple moving average smooths almost four years of closes, roughly one halving cycle, so it rises slowly and rarely falls. In 2015, 2018 to 2019, 2020 and 2022 Bitcoin's bear-market lows formed at or just below it, which is why it is watched as a floor. The ratio of price to the average has peaked between 3x and 10x at cycle tops, with each top lower than the last.
Limits
A floor that has held four times is a pattern, not a law. The average lags badly: it reflects prices from up to four years ago, and in 2022 price spent months below it. Use the ratio to judge whether price is stretched relative to its long trend, not as a level that cannot break.
